DDU-GKY Foreign Placement Digest Edition
As we reach the end of this year we, the rural skill development fraternity, have reasons to look back with immense gratitude and to look forward to welcoming the new year, brimming with optimism and hope for DDU-GKY. We, the Kaushal Samachar team have many a reason to feel happy for our rural youth and all those who have been working tirelessly to skill and place our youth for their sustainable livelihood. This year, we reported over 230 success stories from among thousands of placements in DDU-GKY across the states.
The relentless efforts of the States in ensuring quality and driving outcomes for the programme, the dedication of training partners in grooming and transforming our rural youth to make them employable and job ready through short-term, mid-term and long term courses have been awe inspiring.
We noticed an even more exciting trend in the stories that we collected and have been curating this year – a good number of foreign placements for DDU-GKY trained candidates. Increase in the number of foreign placements not only just indicates a rising willingness among DDU-GKY trained youth to migrate for better livelihood opportunities and an interest to experience new cultures and working environment, but also their sharpened skills, competencies and a “can do” attitude. We are happy to look back to the previous months of Kaushal Samachar and bring to you a digest of all the 110 foreign placements that we reported from September 2022 to November 2023.
We believe this is a great way to draw this year to an optimistic close, so as to open the doors of 2024 with more exciting news about DDU-GKY and the transformation that it brings about in rural poor youth and their families.
Kaushal Samachar team of DDU-GKY Resource Cell of NIRDPR is grateful to Dr G Narendra Kumar IAS, the Director General of NIRDPR for the vision and goals that he has set for us to achieve and Shri Karma Zimpa Bhutia, JS (Skills), MoRD for the encouragement provided to us as we brought out the issues every month.

Reaching out to the untapped potentials of Divyangjans
At the Blind People’s Association in Gujarat, a unique project under DDU-GKY, has been taken up. The CTSA officer of Gujarat who interacted with the candidates in the ongoing batch found that, they had a range of impairments/disabilities, particularly, Speech and Hearing Impairment and belongs to the poor families.
These candidates had not attend special schools; instead, they finished their formal education in conventional schools, which were not equipped to address special needs. Therefore, they don’t know how to interact via a “sign language”.
Though the PIA runs the specialised courses, it was difficult for them to train these candidates because they must first complete a brief course on basic communications via a sign language.
As part of commitment by NIRDPR to improve upon the status of these candidates through regular interactions and also the PIA which has to educate these set of candidates from scratch, it has been mandated that the candidates learn “Sign Language” initially. (The same has been shown in a video). If these basic skills are not there, they can never be made employable through any means.
For them, there is a lot to study, discover, and put into action.
