Dr G Narendra Kumar takes charge as the Director General of National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj
Dr G Narendra Kumar, IAS, assumed office as the Director General of National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad on 27th January, 2021.

Prior to this, Dr. G. Narendra Kumar worked as Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Delhi. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Bio Chemistry from Osmania University and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Maxwell School of Public Affairs, USA. He completed M Tech. from IIT Delhi in Bio-Technology, MSc. in Organic Chemistry and BSc. in Botany from Osmania University. Dr. Kumar holds a PG diploma in Computer Application from University of Pondicherry and has completed a certificate course in Health Management from the Syracuse University.
Dr. G. Narendra Kumar played a pivotal role in establishing four universities in Delhi, simultaneously increasing access to quality technical and higher education. Earlier, he worked at the Administrative Staff College of India, ICRISAT and various national and international academic institutions.

Training Programme & Workshop of ERP Kaushal Bharat in Jammu and Kashmir
Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Jammu and Kashmir, Smt. Sheetal Nanda inaugurated the three-day workshop for onboarding of Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) under Himayat on ‘Kaushal Bharat’ portal on 17 February 2021.

Secretary RDD stated that it is a golden opportunity for all the PIAs to learn from the portal designed and developed by MoRD in collaboration with NIRD & PR for effective implementation of the programme. She added that this is another step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the functioning of the programme. Sheetal Nanda expressed gratitude to NABARD for conducting the workshop for training of PIAs and other stakeholders in operating the portal and facilitating the migration of data to the portal. Mr B Jeevan Reddy, Ms B Madhuri from DDU-GKY, NIRDPR facilitated the workshop. COO, Himayat, in his welcome address said that this workshop will enable the PIAs to upload their details, online placement verification besides other data on Kaushal Bharat portal.

The web-based application developed by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad is a nationwide initiative where data from all states and UTs is collected for quality analytical reports. This will facilitate effective project implementation and monitoring of Himayat programme in the UT by capturing data related to the projects by following process prescribed in Deen Dayal Uphadayay Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDUGKY) SoPs and other guidelines.
The workshop was attended by Sri Sourabh Dubey, Director (Skills), MoRD, GoI; Sri Samir Goswami, Director, MIS, NIRD & PR; Sri Kapil Sharma, Chief Operating Officer, Himayat; Sri Ajay Sood, Chief General Manager, NABARD; Sri Rahul Shashni, DGM, NABARD; representatives of PIAs and other officers of the department.
Virtual Session on Center Management for Phase-IV PIAs in Bihar

A Virtual Session on Center Management for Phase-IV PIAs in Bihar was delivered by Bihar & Jharkhand Team of DDU-GKY Division, NIRDPR. Total number of participants in the session were 54. This training focuses on the knowledge, skills and attitude required of a centre manager to run a DDU-GKY training centre.
P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement) – Soft-Skill Training of Trainers by GAP Inc. initiative of MoRD

A much awaited requirement for standardized content and approach to soft skill training in DDU-GKY was fulfilled by MoRD by introducing P.A.C.E. With the objective to have a uniform soft-skill curriculum for DDU-GKY, MoRD piloted the programme in Kerala and Chhattisgarh in 2019. The result being encouraging, the programme is being introduced to the rest of the States through a ToT approach. On behalf of MoRD, the ToT is being co-ordinated by DDU-GKY Division of NIRDPR. P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement) is an innovative curriculum-based learning program created by Gap Inc. to support participatory learning of foundational life skills to help trainers advance in their personal lives. The P.A.C.E. program is comprised of life and technical skills. The technical skill training is focused to support specific job-related needs of the participants.
The first phase of ToT commenced in November, 2020; so far a total of 3 batches have been trained wherein 62 trainers participated. The objective is to be able to form Master Trainer form the pool of trainers being trained by P.A.C.E team, so that they can in turn train other trainers of DDU-GKY. A total of 23 potential master trainers have been identified from the batches trained.
P.A.C.E. Training for Monitoring & Evaluation Team

An internal training session for the Monitoring & Evaluation Team of DDU-GKY Division was conducted in February 2021 by Mr Nikitesh Reddy MV, Project Manager, DDU-GKY NIRDPR, who got certified as PACE High Potential Master Trainer in January 2021 ToT. The objective was to provide the CTSA with an experience of what entails the Personal Advancement and Career Enhancement (P.A.C.E.) programme that will be soon rolled out to DDU-GKY candidates by the softskill trainers of PIAs who are being trained and certified by GAP Inc., which is development of soft skills for professionals involved in training.
TNSRLM declared February 2021 as Mass Mobilization Month (MMM)
Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission (TNSRLM) has declared February 2021 as Mass Mobilization Month (MMM). The Camps were organised across 37 districts from 11th Feb to 22nd Feb for 100% TC capacity utilization before the announcement of Code of Conduct for upcoming State Assembly Elections.
Directorate of RD/PRIs conducts Mobilization Campaign under DDU-GKY in Nicobar District
Through DDU-GKY which is being implemented by the Directorate of RD & PR, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration aims to provide skill development training along with placement to 3000 candidates by year 2022. In the first phase, 1800 candidates shall be imparted training and will be given placement as per guidelines. Economically backward youth of rural areas will be given skill development training with residential along with other required facilities free of cost after the candidates are selected through mobilization, aptitude test and counseling.

For Mobilization of rural youth of Nicobar District several Awareness camps have been conducted to orient them about the features and benefits of the scheme. On creation of a database, special counseling sessions will be conducted with the potential candidates for successful implementation of the scheme in Nicobar District. This scheme connects trained individuals with job opportunities and assured placements.
Talking about the skill development programme of the GoI, the Secretary (RD/PRIs) Shri Suneel Anchipaka has urged youth to benefit from this scheme which will help in improving their entrepreneurial skills as well as career options.
SRLM team of Andaman & Nicobar Islands take a confident stride in DDU-GKY

Andaman and Nicobar SRLM is a recent entrant to DDU-GKY implementation. After a week-long immersive induction by the DDU-GKY Division of NIRDPR in Hyderabad, the newly onboarded SRLM team of Andaman and Nicobar exude confidence to implement DDU-GKY programme back in the Islands. Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s newly recruited team members were given a week-long intensive induction-cum-training that included classroom sessions and field immersion through extensive training centre visits and tasks at the training centres in Hyderabad.

Under a joint initiative of Ministry of Rural Development, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission, a capacity building workshop on Kaushal Bharat was organized on 4-6 February, 2021 in Hotel Palacio, Khanapara, Guwahati.

A training for Phase-IV PIAs on DDU-GKY SOP guideline and notifications, was conducted by Jeevika Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS) and DDU-GKY Division, NIRDPR team on 10 February 2021. The sessions were conducted by all thematic SPMs, SFM and DDU-GKY Division, NIRDPR officials. Project functionaries such as State Head, Quality Head, MIS Head and National Head from various agencies is participated in the training.

Himayat inks MoUs with leading Multi-National Companies for placement of trained candidates

The Himayat Mission Management Unit (HMMU) signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) Multinational with Sodexo India Services Pvt Ltd, ISS Facility Services India Pvt Ltd and ISS SDB Security Services Pvt Ltd which was signed in presence of Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Sheetal Nanda, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Kapil Sharma & representatives of Companies. The objective of these MoUs is to create more opportunities of employment for the youth of J&K who are undergoing training or have completed their training under Himayat. The MoUs shall secure placement for 30000 candidates trained under Himayat.

A Training of Trainers Programme was organized for Block Mission Managers by Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission (TNSRLM) on 20-22 January 2021. This was conducted to strengthen the mobilization and tracking process with respect to DDU-GKY.

Trainer of the Month
My Journey as a Skill Trainer- Zaida Shajimon

I am Zaida Shajimon working at Shri Technologies, Kochi, Kerala, since March 2019 as Bed Side Assistant Trainer under DDU-GKY project. The supporting faculty, colleagues and the work environment are an additional capital for me. The rapport across the team holds us together in unity. By working here I am able to be a part in transforming rural poor youth into economically independent professionals. I am proud of my job and plan to continue working with the project, empowering the younger generation.
Exhibition Gala for Student Empowerment and Skill Development
Department of Banking and Finance, IIB Education Pvt. Ltd organised a Banking Exhibition on 25th February, 2021 at DDUGKY Centre, Chitilappilly, Thrissur to empower and exhibit the skill of the students.The entire unit including the staff and the students actively participated. The event was applauded by guests and visitors.
The exhibition displayed a Model of a Bank, A Thermocol Robot, Quiz Zone and different types of Chart Works related to Banking. Students gave presentation on “ Cyber Crime in Indian Banking” and on “ Core Banking Solution”.

Learning is development: DDU-GKY, NIRDPR Training and Capacity Building update
Despite the uncertainties and challenges thrown by the pandemic conditions, the stakeholders of DDU-GKY have proven that learning is the key to development. Online training and capacity building continues to draw nominations and participation from Project Implementing Partners of DDU-GKY. In 2020-21, subject matter experts at DDU-GKY NIRDPR delivered training on various SOP related themes, processes and systems online and offline. By January 2021, a total of 195 training programmes were conducted to 6753 participants from all the states and UTs, where DDU-GKY is implemented.
Every month, NIRDPR DDU-GKY delivers training on project application procedures, “Kaushal Salah”, for the organisations that have received PRN. 244 participants attended Kaushal Salah this year.
Training on “MoU Signing Guidelines for PIAs” and on “Project Closure” ToT for SRLMs were designed and initiated this year by DDU-GKY NIRDPR.
